I had a Yugo many years ago. It really did run quite well. I actually got it up to 90 mph on the interstate one time just because I wanted to see what it could do. At the time, I had a 90 mile a day commute and I loved the gas mileage. The people in my office always wanted to ride with me to go to lunch if it was cold out because the Yugo had electric heat. I kept trying to tell them it was a Yugo, not a Wego. So they’d have to decide which 3 would be riding with me.
Some states don’t have emissions inspections. I was stunned the first time I had to get my car inspected when I moved to NY (the only state of 4 that I’ve lived in that had them). Don’t know about IL & FL, but MT still doesn’t have them.

I thought Pluggers only drove American cars?

No, you’re thinking about the Trabant. Or maybe Lada.Yugo were Fiat, like Seat, and not so bad.

I kept a 1973 Dodge Aspen on the road until the rear axle fall out in 2008. 35 years and 400,000 miles. I sure miss that old car.

Yugos were part of an experiment in disposable cars.

Back in the day, I knew somebody who got their YUGO repossessed. Wasn’t sure if he was lucky or unlucky…

A plugger would not by a Yugo. He, o0r she, would drive a good American car and say Up Yours to the Enviro-Weenies

I know absolutely nothing about cars, but I can understand how someone would want to keep a favoured toy going.

And you are a nerdy engineer plugger if you restore one.
I knew one that did it.
