I decided to work with this fact of nature and buy 1/2 again the number of the shades that fit my light fixtures when I bought them 35 years ago. So far, I’ve broken one, so I think if you have space in the basement this seems to actually work.
I will lok for something in the drawer it is supposed to be and can’t find it. I go to the store to replace it, get home, open the drawer to put it away, and there the old one is. every time! AAAHHHH!

There’s another way sure way to find something you’ve misplaced: Stop looking for it and start looking for something else. It works every time.

Ha! I know several people who do that, but I don’t call them Pluggers because that’s not a thing.

Addendum to the rule that, if you put something in a place where it won’t get lost … well, you know…
