The full moon is up only during the night. The new moon is up only during the day (but it’s invisible). The first and last quarter moons are up half the day and half the night.
So it’s accurate to say bigger brighter moons are up more at night, but that doesn’t mean the moon is never up during the day: it often is.
When I was in the USAF, the Security Police had a ride-along program, where you could follow them for a shift to see what they do. I went along on a Friday night. It was a payday and the moon was full. The SP told me it should be a wild night with all these events coinciding, but it turned out to be the slowest, most boring car ride I ever was on.
