Since this was written, late payments to utilities has gotten so bad that people with frequent delinquent accounts with utility companies are now only getting 30 days before getting shut off. The utility company will send someone out to shut off service to the residence and the only way to avoid the shut off and reconnect fee is to bring the account up to date with the person who is there to discount. If you are not home too bad for you. You will have to reschedule a reconnect and pay for a reconnect. They no longer issue warnings for shut offs depending on your account history.
