I’ve never seen ONE character that could be considered overweight in this strip. I think the Neighborhood Association makes them all stick their fingers down their throats off panel.
A false sense of themselves and eating disorders go hand in hand. Many young girls need therapy in order to maintain the weight/height ratio. While we don’t hear of it unless it is someone famous, people do die from eating disorders because their bodies are starving, organs start shutting down and their hearts give out.I caught a show one time about a pair of twin sisters. They were trying to outdo each other as to who could weigh the least. Medical personnel had to make sure the sisters didn’t see their own medical charts as they thought the least little weight gain would set them off to eat less and less. They were even saying they couldn’t even eat more than one or two spoonfuls of jello!! I switched the channel after that. It was just to tragic to watch anymore. They were very thin and it was a wonder they had any energy to move around.
