The main cause of cavities is not sugar, but soda pop. Sodas are very acidic, ph around 4.0 (the pH of vinegar), which will dissolve a nail. This weakens the enamel so that sugar & food particles can penetrate the enamel and cause cavities. As a child, I often drank a six-pack of Dr Pepper or Coke per day (during summer months) and now as a senior citizen, I am mostly dentures. So stopping sugar is not enough…

Teena, brush your teeth and floss after each meal, and cut out highly sugared drinks and snacks, and the chances of cavities will be greatly reduced.
