If you’re going to root for an out-of-state team just because they win a lot, you might as well completely sell your soul and root for the Yankees (although, again, thet’s the AL so…)
My hometown is pretty much equidistant between Chicago and St. Louis, and it’s pretty much split down the middle between Cub fans (loyalists) and Cardinals fans (traitors). You didn’t have to be one or the other, but you couldn’t be both. It’s like the Cripps and the Bloods, the Montagues and the Capulets, the eternal struggle between Blue and Red.
And I note that NOBODY in my home town roots for St. Louis in FOOTBALL (either the Cardinals or the Rams), so take that for what you will…
There’s nothing hard about being a Cubs fans. You just accept that the first round of the post season is as far as they’ll ever get. If they make it to the 2nd round, that’s like winning the WS.
I;m overstating my opinions and position for the sake of entertainment, but I see no justification for anyone who was born in and lives in Illinois to prefer the Cardinals to the Cubs.

Baseball is slightly more interesting than watching paint dry.

Even with the wins I still want a Cubs/Red Sox series!

The White Sox, like every American League team, do not really play baseball. A baseball team has nine players on a side, not ten.
And again, if you base your preference only on the team’s win/loss record, you are a heartless mercenary and might as well be rooting for the Yankees.

Being a Cubs fan is just simple city loyalty!
