I remember when I told my parents “but everyone else is doing it” as a defense for some infraction when I was about seven or eight years old, my father told me that from now on, it would be everyone else less one! He emphasized his point with a few good licks where they would do the most good. (Mind you, I was raised back in the time when parental discipline was neither abuse nor an oxymoron.) Being of average intelligence, I never raised that defense again.

My BIL used to tell me that whatever I complained about bush doing, Carter had done, too.
When I said that it was nice that Carter was a role model for him, it stopped.
