@gretchensmom: This attitude has always been well-known. It’s the story of the dog in the manger.

@dazz; i am fascinated by your avatar – it’s a little like mine, but close up. am i correct that it also shows two fluffy white chicks, very extremely young, and an unhatched egg?
What kinds of birds are they? i know that many kinds of baby birds look the same to begin with – just balls of white fur. in my photo they are peregrine falcons in a nest in alberta, canada.
which reminds me, i want to look up some webcams – haven’t done it for a few days. on the one hand it’s kind of early for the season, but on the other hand not all birds go by the amount of light in the day – some go by the temperature or other factors.
Maybe nobody else cares, but I’m sure Alix would understand! And I think maybe her Gramma would – she seems to be interested in everything!

We have a group of organic farmers who bring a bag of freshly-picked produce once a week to previously-selected drop-off points for anybody who has signed up for the summer. The farmers decide what to put in the bags, so you never know what you will be getting, but they thoughtfully put in some notes about how to cook it, some recipes, and so on.
Now why haven’t I signed up?? It sounds wonderful!! Guess it’s my (sigh) inertia taking hold…

As to autocorrect, when I start using a new unfamiliar word processing package, which dares to think it knows spelling and grammar better than I do, I just hunt thru the menus to find the options to turn off these features.

One thing that nobody seems to have noticed is how mild Jan Eliot’s criticism is. It’s just a hair’s breadth away from being at the political centre. If she really laid it on with a trowel, then I could see a reason for all these frothings at the mouth.
As it is, I think you Americans are all getting upset over nothing.
No, of course I’m not an American. Why, whatever gave you that idea?

2Bdaysuit! From your avatars, can I reasonably conclude that you are interested in birds? Because now is when they’re raising their babies. Some places you could google are:
“Decorah eagles”: the babies are half grown already.
“Genesee Alberta peregrine falcons”: I think the female is sitting on the eggs right now – let’s see… no, no one is home.
-Genesee is quite far north, so the falcons nest later.
I have seen falcons in Australia, California – so where was I looking yesterday? There’s an elaborate ritual when one falcon comes to relieve the other – then sits down carefully over the eggs and arranges them till they’re just right.
I have also followed a nest of barn owls. Try:“barn owl cam”: their innocence is breath-taking.
There’s a Chinese saying, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” and a Jewish one’"He that saves one life, it is as if he saved the whole world."
In other words, a single candle can light up a lot of darkness!
