Halloween is also something else…it’s a way of facing what frightens you and, therefore, disempowering it, because when you confront what you’re afraid of, it won’t harm you…and it loses it power over you.
I find this hysterically funny. Has anyone ever told Darrin Bell that he’s the next Garry Trudeau? I love both this one and Candorville; they’re both consistently funny.
It’s actually gotten worse: true story, recently happened at Boeing: the CEO who was in charge of the 737X development and the engineering debacle that followed was terminated over it. But he was given a total severance package, including a mult-million dollar performance bonus. Why? Because it was part of his employment contract. No matter what he did or didn’t do, nor how reckless or incompetent he was, he still left with a full benefits package. Why? Because that’s the standard package now when corps hire CEOs now. Otherwise the CEO won’t accept the offer. (This was in a Seattle Times article). So there is no longer any incentive to work competently, and no punishment for negligence.
Sorry to hear that, guys. But it sounds like you’re doing the right thing and keep pushing forward. Hope it all works out the best for everyone. Thanks for posting and sharing.
This didn’t exactly happen to me, but one year, when I was in high school, my dad brought home a tree. When we were decorating it, we found what I thought was a cocoon, so I broke off the branch, put it in a jar, and put it in my room. Turns out it wasn’t a cocoon after all: it was an egg case for praying mantids. Which eventually hatched and were all over the place. It was still winter, but we put the jar outside (since most of them were still in it) and managed to kill and clean up the rest. But it took almost a week before I got them all. Hated to kill the ones in the house, but we couldn’t feed them and Mom didn’t want them in the house. And, of course, the ones in the jar died, too. The house was so warm they hatched early.
Hey, Don & Pat….just want you to know how much I love this strip. Rose Is Rose is among my top favorite strips. It’s funny and warm…and has real sweetness and a gentle innocence about it. With all the chaos going on, Rose and the gang have been helping me to get through it all. Thanks so much and give my best to the whole gang.
