    Other than the war comments, that’s the way my class in ‘71 was given our diplomas at SIU-Edwardsville, just "stand up, you’re graduated, sit down." I needn’t (and wouldn’t) have gone for the ceremony had I known it would be like that.

    Question 3 is simple to answer, the popular brand “Frigidaire” gave rise to the shorter “fridge” as a generic reference to all refrigerators. It was the best known brand and people being what they are, the term was and is shorthand for all refrigerators of any brand.
