He does sometimes joke around with his allies and enemies at times, often if the odds are against him. One of the very VERY few things Frank Miller got right in his movie was some of the Spirit/Dolan banter and the humorous pratfalls that befell the Spirit on occasion.
Long time Spirit and Dick Tracy fan here (I’m in heaven right now with this crossover btw), the Spirit did wear socks on a couple of occasions. Hard to miss red socks with his blue suit and brown shoes! It wasn’t often but you’re right – most of the time you see his naked ankles when running/jumping etc.
Fantastic story unfolding. I can’t wait to see the rest of Sam’s recollection.
I recall the police officers in Gould’s story having diagonal stripes on their pants when they were in uniform. Although, this predates the beginning of Plainclothes Tracy and all…
It’s been a while since I’ve seen action like this – where Tracy is in genuine trouble and I genuinely care. The black and white looks much better than the random spatterings of colour we had before.
safeway674, I’m a gal and I’ve been reading Dick Tracy comics for years. At the age of about 8 or 9 I went through a detective phase (still haven’t grown out of it!). During that time I found a couple of reprints of some Max Allan Collins stuff, then when the DT reprint collections came out, I’ve started collecting them.
