As a teacher, I face this every day. I’ll spend time going into great detail on the assignment and ask if there are any questions. No questions. Then 5 minutes later: What am I supposed to be doing? Or I’ll go over the grading rubric that clearly states minimum 4 paragraphs and they’ll turn in 1 paragraph or a single sentence and then wonder why I want them to redo it, or give them a failing grade.
