   How, precisely, do you think we GOT laws which protect workers against dangerous conditions, Tim? Unions fought for them — and union members died, with remarkable frequency in those fights — until the government was forced to take notice and do something. Every basic labor right we have, from hazardous-condition protections to the weekend, was won by unions.

   When the unions are gone, how long do you expect those protections to last? I give them about two years, but I may be overly optimistic.

   You’re too soft on them. The entire force is refusing to obey the lawful orders of the elected representative of the people who pay their salary. They should all be fired — not “encouraged” to leave, but forced to. New York can ask for emergency help from other cities until it can hire a new police force, but the men and women on the current force should be blacklisted and never allowed to wear a police uniform again, anywhere.

   Wow, way to miss the point even when it’s rubbed in your face! Look at question #3 again carefully, and try to understand why it’s NOT actually the same as hating all police officers — including Officers Ramos and Liu.

   I don’t know where you were, but the mainstream press certainly did pursue that story. It was all over the place.

   The point of this cartoon, at least, is that it’s not really about what this particular Republican did at this speech. The issue is all the other racist things they’ve made a consistent policy of doing for the last eight years. So, while the evidence against Scalise may be only middling, it doesn’t matter a lot for purposes of what this particular image is trying to say — it may for others, but that’s different.

   The Democrats aren’t progressive — especially in a place like Missouri. They’re just not as insane as the Republicans, but that doesn’t make them decent.

   Brown wasn’t in the process of attacking a cop while Wilson shot him. He was standing still at a distance from the cop with his hands in the air. The punishment for assault — even on a cop (who, by the way, have no greater value to their lives than any of the rest of us) — is not instantaneous execution, and a cop who shoots someone they could apprehend and take in alive is still committing murder, even if that person hit them a minute earlier. But none of that’s the part which is relevant to this cartoon.

   The relevant aspect of the case to this cartoon is that the prosecutor handled the case grossly differently from the way that same prosecutor handles any case which does not involve a white cop shooting a black man. Demonstrably, based on the data from inside the courtroom on this and his other cases. That is what leads sensible people to believe that the cops have the prosecutor’s office in their pockets — if the prosecutor behaved the same way as usual (such as cross-examining witnesses harshly, rather than with softball questions; making sure to point out all the possible excuses to the grand jury; failing to list the range of charges which they might consider for the purpose) and the grand jury had voted not to indict, you’d have a point. As it is, your knee is jerking hard enough to splatter ketchup on your shirt.

   Well, they’re not supposed to tell the grand jury how to vote. But this one did.

    Except for the part where the IRS actually treated ALL politically-named organizations, liberal just as much as conservative, exactly the same. That was proven, but the conservative “we’re entertainment, not news, so we don’t legally have to tell the truth” media didn’t cover it.
