I may know where this is coming from, but it’s obscure, even for someone who used to work in the space biz. Back in the 2000s, there was a program to send a robot to explore the moon. Like many science programs, it got defunded, and never happened. The robot was called a penguin, for how it looked and moved.
Ods bodkins and gadzooks are both euphemisms (or minced oaths) created to avoid blaspheming (as I think folks have been doing for as long as there’s been language and religions against which one can blaspheme). They’re reckoned to replace “God’s body” and “God’s hooks” (the nails on the Christian cross), respectively. Not at all sure how forsooth fits in the gag, though. It means “in truth,” but I usually see it used ironically or in doubt, kind of like we might use “Is that a fact?” today. So an archaic interjection, yes, but not a minced oath that I’m aware of. Maybe “Jiminy Cricket,” but that doesn’t evoke the Quaker part of the gag.
Sigh. Those who insist on the cardinal latin prefix over the decsriptive may also get riled about sentences which end with a preposition. Let’s let them have their pedantic demesnes.
Now that Holly’s said that, all she has to do is look over her shoulder to get the correct spelling.
