   If you were asked this in the real world, you would be expecting the answer 56, as hltrim and I would. (On the other hand, if you are an Abbott and Costello fan, 13 × 7 = 28. Great bit, look it up when you have the chance.)

   I read that Crist started out as a “Ronald Reagan Republican,” and apparently his policies then reflected it. When he tried to run for Senate and did not get the nomination, he ran as an “independent” and lost. As if that were bad enough, he emerged two years later as a Democrat—and worse, embraced Obama’s policies.

   If he had stayed a Republican, I think people would have trusted him more. Instead, he appears to me and other residents as someone who is not loyal to his principles. Eventually, if the change in parties is not perceived as being from principle (as a number of other politicians have successfully defended), we have a case of someone turning 180 degrees from his prior positions. That is known as an opportunist.

   I am not surprised that Scott was re-elected. He had the record to justify it, and even though many people I listened to disliked Scott, ultimately I think the people preferred someone who was (initially) hated to someone who was a totally different candidate than the one who was governor previously.

   (We are moving from Florida in a month, so I did not vote in this race. I am merely making observations regarding the campaigning I saw over the past months.)

   On the contrary, we should get rid of the currently constituted Democrats. I used to have respect for them, but since Clinton I have had a lot of trouble finding one I could truly support. (And no, I am NOT a Republican. I consider myself an independent. I don’t want to be in anyone’s pocket.)

   On the other hand, there are SOME Republicans I wish would go away, but in general their bench has had some people I could support. There are SOME Republicans who are not the extremists you imply all of them are. I am not so sure that I can say that of the Democrats today.

   In other words, the extremists should burn themselves out, leaving the best candidates from BOTH parties. The extremist voters (and judging from your rhetoric, you and some others belong there, and, yes, there are some on the Republican side too) will just have to hold their noses and vote for someone who is not “perfect” by their standards, but is just fine for most of us.

   I think you mean VERSUS. (That sounds like someone is a fan of C&W. “Love of country verses, love of self.”)

   I wish when people wrote things, they paid attention to the spelling and grammar more. They should know when what they are trying to say is not undermined by a misspelled word.

   Maybe that’s the problem. The negative campaigning works because most voters are too lazy to research the lies and half-truths in the ads!

   But why do we have to have bums at all? Maybe it’s time for term limits all around. Then they would know they have a limited amount of time to do the most good (and so would the voters), and then they can return to their homes and have new blood to continue their work.

    The sad thing about this is it will start again THE DAY AFTER THE ELECTION.
