In 1988 loaded 3 kids, age 1 to 5, in the van and drove down from Monterey to Disneyland. Spent the night in hotel, and went to park the next morning. The parking lot was empty, except for a guy in a yellow raincoat. The park was closed, for the first time in decades, due to impending high winds and thunderstorms. Try explaining that to the three daughters on the long trip home – which had a 4 hour extra delay because a truck crashed on Hwy 1 spilling surfboards on the highway. California!
