Did they also have to imitate POTUS’s cabinet members and advisors at meetings and declare their undying admiration for him and what an honor it is to work for him?
I’m not too sure about the TOO boring, but it’s certainly gotten boring, and certainly not as boring as, say, a marathon. MLB keeps talking about finding ways to speed up the game but so far has only done – wait for it – eliminate the four useless pitches for intentional walks. Ta Daaaaa!Proposals: Pitchers get 12 second between pitches; catchers get only one trek to the mound per inning or five per game or the batter gets an intentional walk; if a coach or manger walks to the mound the pitcher is replaced; do all instant replay revues on the field, with a 60 second time limit, and each team gets only one review per game, period. All that said, I still watch some games. If they’re boring I read with the game as background.
The Bill of Rights hasn’t changed, but its interpretation has broadened. The First amendment not broadens freedom of speech to mean freedom of expression, for example. No clause in the BofR has been ignored except the first clause of the Second Amendment. It might as well not exist.
You’re right, we do need to concentrate on mental illness, but that’s not all. the fact is that guns of all sorts can be bought without much control, practically on every street corner. Mental cases have too easy a time getting guns, even arsenals, with little or no control. That needs to be addressed as well, attacking the problem from both directions.
Red Centipede is just a name. It comes from a Fu Manchu novel, ca. 1912 or so.
I’ve been trying to keep the discussion civil and not ad hominem. But since some people, ahem, are resorting to insults it’s time to leave. There’s no debating those people, and therefore no point.
The Second Amendment was written over 200 years ago with little regard to how times change. I wonder if the writer ever thought of mass murders, or machine guns, TV, internal combustion, anesthesia, antisepsis, or any other advances. Times change, and a lot of the Bill of Rights has changed with them.
But not the Second Amendment. Isn’t it odd how the first clause – “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State” – is ignored by gun owners, the NRA, and gun manufacturers (which fund the NRA)? Where is the “well regulated militia”? It’s not the crazies with AR15’s and bump stocks who shoot up crowds. The only “militias” these days are groups of heavily armed soreheads hiding out in isolated areas, preparing for Armageddon or for when some ghost government decides to take away their rights.
What has my simple statement of fact got to do with creationism? Read my comment again. All I said was that Earth was the only planet where life was KNOWN to exist. That doesn’t imply any sort of special creation, only the current state of knowledge. I never said life couldn’t or didn’t exist elsewhere.
And I don’t subscribe to the so-called Anthropic Principle, either. Look it up.
