    Yeah, they should be designed to open easily when we need OUT in an emergency, but instead, are designed to open in, when our arms are full of groceries. Truth. I learnt it in architecture school.

    We were not rich, and did not manage the trips, not the tutoring, nor the lessons. But we talked at the dinner table, and read and read, and helped them if and when they needed it, but didn’t do it for them. They did manage to qualify for a gifted and talented program from Johns Hopkins (thanks to a math teacher for letting us know the program existed) and they got scholarships there. It is harder, but it can be done.
