You’re not wrong about the danger of inaction in response to dire threat. ’The danger isn’t from evildoers’, however … .
Trump’s pardon of imprisoned J6 felons yesterday ought to fit into the definition of “evil”, as will any future negative outcomes directly attributable to this action. It is impossible to state that there is some sort of action society could take which will preclude any negative outcomes resulting from yesterday’s pardons by Trump.
He alone will not be solely responsible for any of those, of course, as any actual perpetrators of future negative actions will be at least as guilty as he is for any crimes they commit related to his actions.*
*Trump can be held at least partially responsible for crimes any of this bunch commit prior to the date they would have been released from prison if not pardoned, but it would be a stretch to hold Trump responsible for criminal offenses they may perpetrate after they’d have completed their sentences if not pardoned and released.
The Trump presidency may not kill us citizens. Well, at least not all of us, likely even far from a majority. But will the USA liberal democracy republic survive?
When you leave the regular posts you intend to place here, consider placing the new numbers to the right of the numbers (maybe in parentheses?) in your post today for ready comparison purposes.
And more than a few of those released from prison as a result of Our New (and first ever!) Emperor’s pardons yesterday are now at his beck and call for all sorts of what would be crimes if orders issued to commit them came from anyone other than the USSC Pre-pardoned Individual Number ONE!
WASHINGTON (AP) – President Donald Trump has pardoned, commuted the prison sentences or vowed to dismiss the cases of all of the 1,500-plus people charged with crimes in the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot, including people convicted of assaulting police officers, using his clemency powers on his first day back in office to undo the massive prosecution of the unprecedented assault on the seat of American democracy.
Trump’s action, just hours after his return to the White House on Monday, paves the way for the release from prison of people found guilty of violent attacks on police, as well as leaders of far-right extremist groups convicted of failed plots to keep the Republican in power after he lost the 2020 presidential election to Democrat Joe Biden.
The pardons are a culmination of Trump’s yearslong campaign to rewrite the history of the Jan. 6 attack, which left more than 100 police officers injured as the angry mob of Trump supporters – some armed with poles, bats and bear spray – overwhelmed law enforcement, shattered windows and sent lawmakers and aides running into hiding. While pardons were expected, the speed and the scope of the clemency amounted to a stunning dismantling of the Justice Department’s effort to hold participants accountable over what has been described as one of the darkest days in the country’s history.
Trump also ordered the attorney general to seek the dismissal of roughly 450 cases that are pending before judges stemming from the largest investigation in Justice Department history.
I agree with you 100%. One TDS (Trump Di_ker Society) member instigates plenty as an individual, but when you add tens of millions of that type — whew, gets to be waaay too many of this type of instigator virtually instantly. : )
True. My mind was back in my US navy time as an OS working in CIC. When relaying distance from one’s own ship to plotters calculating range and speed (the NTDS — Naval Tactical Data System — had just been installed aboard my vessel but was still too kinky to trust to replace manual trig based methodology), distances on radar screen were calculated in yards. Decimal places were not desirable when dealing with nearby vessels or low flying radar contacts (surface SPA-10 radar did not deal with most aircraft, which were tracked with high altitude signals generated by SPA-48 radar and dealt with by a separate unit), especially any CBDR contacts (Constant Bearing Decreasing Range).
