Yes, cartoonists only give a coloring guide for Sunday strips. Dailies are done by an anonymous syndicate staffer (actually, Dana mentioned in one comment around the start of syndication that his name is Brian, but that’s ten years ago now) with little or no regard to continuity, the script, or logic. Over in the Dick Tracy comments, we call them The Mad Colorist.

Hey, it’s the Cogswell Cogs Caveman! Back in the Stone Age, they could only imagine service like this! (Cf. The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones)

Scooby-dooby-dooooo (before the dog, that was Barney’s catchphrase, though not as common as Fred’s Yabba Dabba Doo.

Or, to quote a different comic character “nobody gets free advertising in MY strip!”

There is no “ritual” that a Rabbi gets paid to do the make food kosher. The bible forbids certain foods, like milk and meat or pork or horse meat, and everything else is kosher (OK, technically “kosher” means that meat has been drained of blood—this is done by extreme salting with the crystal salt known for this reason as Kosher Salt—but has come to mean permitted food in general). That circled U means that the food preparation was supervised by an observant Jew (not necessarily a Rabbi) to make sure no forbidden ingredients were added.

Sorry, but you set off my “Must-Explain-Judaism!” bit. It also gets triggered by Sam Catchem in Dick Tracy.

In the first few seasons of The Next Generation, there were some lines that implied the Klingons had officially joined the Federation, but this was cleared up by the fourth season and Star Trek VI.
