Political correctness is for those who whine and whine and start a cause of what THEIR beliefs of how things should be, and what their opinions are.
What a load of crap!
Everyone caves so it will continue until people and companies stop being wusses and stand their ground! Get a pair and stop ruining peoples lives! What they did or said 5-10-20- 200 yrs ago isnât relevant today! Grow up whiners! Get a life!
Cancelling a program, book, or other form of media due to changes in how society views things over time is wrong. Attach a brief explanation of what is now offensive about the material and how attitudes have changed since the work was created educates people and helps them learn why something is wrong and has the power to change attitudes. Banning/ canceling something just hides the issues and causes people to hide their biases from society and gives them the power to raise the next generation with their biases, using the âcancel cultureâ, âcensorshipâ or âthought policeâ as an excuse for their bias, because they are fighting for freedom of expression and thought. I suspect banning books like Huckleberry Finn has probably done more to promote racism, than allowing the book to be read with a foreword discussing changing racial attitudes in our society.
Society and companies are allowed to make choices. If they feel that presenting certain material misrepresents the âmoralsâ of the company, they stop presenting that media. There are NO bans, there is NO censorship. The whiners who are complaining that Warner Brothers and Dr. Seuss Holdings shouldnât be allowed to decide what material to produce or air are the ones placing restrictions. People are allowed to air grievances, companies and other groups of people are allowed to respond as they feel appropriate. But there are NO bans; that isnât censorship.
I am disgusted by those who are so âsupportiveâ of businesses acting on their âmoralsâ to oppress one group, then accusing everyone of instituting bans, when another company acts on their âmoralsâ to support other groups.
Back before the Ice Age, when I was a youngâun, I used to wonder why Elmer Fudd had his own comic (four issues from Dell) but Pepe Le Pew had nothing. Also, when they did run a Pepe story in an anthology, it was always about him being a hobo, not about him chasing women (which answers the first question, of course).
Pepe cartoons are still available if you look. Warners has just made the decision not to promote him by taking him out of Space Jam 2.
Pepe Le Pew is a skunk, and a cartoon one at that. He is a hopeless romantic who chases around after a female cat heâs mistaken for a female skunk. He thinks sheâs shy. It never occurs to him sheâs not a girl skunk. His biological imperative is to court a female and mate. Itâs hardwired in. All males of every animal species do this. The only difference between humans and animals is weâre supposed to be sentient and capable of thought. Taking another personâs feelings into consideration and not pursuing a female when sheâs not interested should be enough. Thatâs what sentience is all about. Animals donât care. Males pursue females until she mates and estrus is over or she choses a mate and settles down to raise chicks or pups. Humans donât have estrus to mark the end of breeding season and arenât wholly monogamous like some species of birds and mammals. This is where their sentience is supposed to take over and regulate their behaviour. Time to make them acknowledge that itâs their responsibility to behave and insist they do so. Letâs not take it out on cartoons and books written decades ago in another time.
Good and bad experiences are what make and shape us, if you deny the past how do you grow and move forward. This is not a defense for people who only live in the past and didnât learn from it but honestly everyone probably has some sort of âregretsâ to overcome.
