The first part is just too true—for instance, Red Desert is just a super treat for the eyes, despite (as I recall) a pretty silly plot; Blow-Up is also visually stunning (with an intricate plot that may or may not be pointless); The Passenger starts with an amazing single tracking shot (and a kind of silly plot too, as I recall). (Zabriskie Point, on the other hand, is just silly, although it appeals to Big Jim McBob and Billy Sol Hurok of Farm Film Report.)
