Confession requires the in-person encounter. The priest, acting in the person of Christ, facilitates reconciliation as if the penitent were to go to Christ. Christ came incarnate and is perpetuated through the sacrament in a tangible way. Thus, twitter or remote “confessions” would not be a participation in the actual sacrament, although it could be edifying for spiritual advice.
