Woman: We should have gotten the kids a train this Christmas. Don't you remember when your parents got you one? Man: Yes. I remember my dad swearing like a sailor for two hours while it derailed a hundred times before it made it around the tree.

He must have lost his “train” of thought.

Yes, I remember the ‘good ol’ days’ when we spent more time putting the Tyco (HO gauge) or Lionel (O27 gauge) back on the track. My pa ‘introduces us’ to his Marx brand train from his youth (made completely of tin or aluminum). The larger ones weren’t as bad to ‘re-rail.’ But the Tyco tracks had to be laid and joined perfectly, or those small flanges on the wheels wouldn’t do the job. I found out Bachmann had larger flanges. Probably worked better.

Make a video game train and let the kids go at wreaking it themselves. they already likely swear like sailors from hanging around with their public school ‘friends” who’s parents have no restraint.

My Lionel was great. My son’s HO was a pain.
