Man: Look! I found my old protractor from middle school. We used to use them to make smiles. Woman: And they say our education system is broken. Man: And upside down it's a frown!
In school, I stayed with math all the way through calculus. There was NEVER a single assignment in any of it that called for a protractor, yet I probably owned a dozen of them through the years. The smile/frown thing was the protractor’s sole purpose.
Even when I was a teen protractors had gone out of style in favour of what we call “geometry triangles” over here, which is a protractor and equilateral set square in one.
I wasn’t able to figure out what those are called in English as Wikipedia links our Dutch page for the “Geodriehoek” to the English set square page.
I own a protractor because it once came with a pencil case I bought. Never used it.
