In the movie a special flagpole was constructed of plastic. A vacuum pump was installed in the bottom and the actor’s tongue was attracted to a hole drilled in the side of the pole. The flagpole scene was only shot from the side so you did not see the hole. It was said that all of the actors and production crew took turns getting “stuck!” to the flagpole.
