I just bought a new car. It detects the key in my pocket. All I have to do is insert a hand between the handle and door and it unlocks. I can also swipe my foot under the rear bumper and the liftgate will open (if I have the key).
I see the other half of that. There has to be receivers “always on” for this to work. Chip designers/makers are busting their butts so those receivers don’t run your battery down if left in an airport lot for a looong time. Offhand, I don’t know if your key also has to listen all the time. It is a situation I don’t care for.
