Interesting… I got a Schwin with a Banana Seat in tiger stripe. I vividly remember the tiger-strip seat because that is what I was mad for at the time. Not idea what color the bike was.

If he kept it in perfect condition it may be worth more than his parents paid.

My Stingray in 1969 was green, with a blue banana seat. It was an awesome bike. I put my dog in the basket on the handlebars and we went everywhere together.

I wanted, and got, a black sting ray in about 1950. Most beautiful thing I’ve ever owned.

My first big kid bike was a blue one with a flowered banana seat (I’m a girl). Loved it!! My parents hated it and tried hard to get me to get another one. I refused and they finally caved. I had that bike until college when they got rid of it.

In 1945 I got a red bike that you could separate the front wheel from the back to put it in the trunk of a car. My parents who had just adopted me in September that year, thought it was the best, but I was disappointed because it wasn’t like my other friends bikes that had a button on the side that was a horn. I was 9 years old. That bike was the newest and best at that time. But kids don’t understand that.

Hah, I had the same problem with Santa. No matter how many times I ordered a green Schwinn, I wound up with a red Huffy. Dad included a small note from Santa, pleading budget problems. :)

I got one like that but it was red. Over the next few years it faded and became pink. Do you know how hard it is being 12 and trying to be cool on a pink bike?

In 1964 I got a black Rollfast middle weight bike (26X1.75 tires), at the time, the “English Racers” (three speed, light weight bikes) where the most wanted and the Stingray bikes where just being introduced. That black bike was a great bike but someone stole it in 1970 by cutting the lock when I was in school. I rode the bike to school (a Junior High School) which was about a mile away. I had worn out 3 sets of tires.on that bike.

I feel your pain, Brian…but I had to use my SISTER’S used bike, had to paint it and put my own leopard skin banana seat on it! We all have those painful memories. So sad.

Boy me too. Mine was purple! That was the only color that they had at the Sear’s Outlet. At least it was a boy’s bike. However, the banana seat and sissy bar were great! Keep up the great strip!

I got the 3 speed blue StingRay out of Dad’s re-enlistment bonus in 67 or 68. He got a Heathkit color console TV, & spent a few weeks putting it together. First color TV we ever had.

    1966?

    Rode a “jungle Bike”.

Highly modified WWII vintage military frame, WIDE, SOLID tires, coaster and hand brakes, Cargo tray over the rear wheel, Motorcycle style double kickstand.

Thing weighed almost as much as I did at the time, but I put a lot of miles on it on and around Anderson AFB, Guam.

Hmmm…. I think my Sting Ray was purple. 1966 was too many brain cells ago! My new bike is Big Blue Pearl, has 6 gears, a sissy bar and a solo seat. No ape hangers, because they are illegal in Tennessee! And I think it can go a whole lot faster!! ;)

I got a purple knock-off bike for my birthday in 1967 (or was it 1968?). It wasn’t a Schwinn, but a Sears cause it was cheaper and my folks didn’t have much $.
