I took my Girl Scout daughters to put flags at a military cemetery yesterday. We don’t have any military in our immediate family (my mom’s brother fought in Korea), but it’s important for all of us to recognize the sacrifices made for our freedom.
This is one of many things I love about this strip. Many strips will be Memorial Day-themed this weekend. But Mr. Basset never seems to forget the purpose of the day, or the reason for the season, as it were. Kudos to him, and many thanks to our veterans for all they’ve done.
(BTW, this is not to imply that no other strip has recognized out veterans, I’m sure Mr. Basset isn’t alone, just thankful that he does)
I love this strip – consistently. Thank you for such a gentle, concise, caring, real, sweet, loving and fabulous comic strip. It makes my Sunday for sure! The way that you portray a boy and his dog is the way that the relationship between every person and their dog should be. It is awesome. Today’s (day before Memorial Day) was wonderful. Thank you!!

I think we all remember and feel deeply. This is the greatest country because of the sacrifices of too many.

Lovely tribute! My mom was a Lt. in the Army Nurse Corps during WW2 and continued taking care of others for over 40 years as a Registered Nurse.
