What was the lunch du jour, anyway?

wondering what part of the country Red lives in. Dungarees, must be east of the Mississippi.Guessing north of the Mason-Dixon.Iowa, Ohio, Indiana, maybe the North East?It’s not Texas, Oklahoma or Kansas.

A fountain pen?

We called them dungarees when I was a kid in the 1960’s.

“Dungaree Doll” by Eddie Fisher (yes; Princess Leia’s father) in 1956. Nothing to do with agriculture at that point; pure Hollywood!

I knew Brian Basset was about my age, those things happened to me when I went to school.

Bib and Braces were called overalls.

Having a fountain pen at Red’s age was considered “cool”, and of course, Rover has his priorities set on tummy satisfaction…

Rover just figures that Something Good should come of all that Misery!

Ball points were luxuries in the early sixties, before Bic. We used cartridge fountain pens from third grade on.

!964..Post school.. I was 9 years old.Our 1940s wooden desk still had inkwell holders(we never used them)..We called dungarees Jeans or Levis..I don’t think the Wranglers brand had made it to southern AZ yet.

Rick is right. I’m from Connecticut and we called them dungarees until the word jeans became fashionable. Does’t matter. Red and Rover is the best!

So, if we are on a trip back in time, who remembers Gant shirts and maybe Duck Tail haircuts?

It was fun to come back here tonite and see all the comments. I was probably a couple of years older than Red at that time. I do remember duck-tail hair cuts. So Conneticut is one place that called jeans dungarees. I figured it was east of Kansas. I also only ever heard the term dungarees from the song “dungaree Doll” and it does fit in that song better than jeans doll or Levis doll.I had figured it was set in the early 60’s, because boys were always wearing jeans that were bought with room to grow in. And I would race home to see Mickey Mouse club too.
