They’re just following Scotty to get “home,” and in the Star Trek world of their imagination, the archaic saying, “When in Rome …” has become the contemporary, “When on Romulus ….” In other words, this serendipitous Scotty is bringing them home via the sidewalk because Red apparently knows he and Rover can’t be “beamed” home.
