Rip Haywire by Dan Thompson for October 28, 2011
Transcript:
Rip: If I survive this - I'll track you down to the ends of the earth. Jack: Tsk. Tsk. You won't survive this, Haywire. The grenades are outside the bars, attached to these chains - you'd never reach them before the gooey kablooey. Guard: River Jack, we've captured Bliss Benson and some very handsome and rugged-looking older man. Jack: Tsk. Tsk. Looks like you've bungled this job quite pathetically, Mr. Haywire. Burn down the jail around them! Kid: Eu nao acho que voce e um perdedor, senhor. Rip: Thanks, kid, whatever you said.

I took a glance at yesterday’s commentary. This is the first time I’ve had to press “Load the rest of the comments” for this strip.

I hope Rip gets a brilliant idea soon. The heat from this fire can’t be good for the boy’s temperature.

“Eu não acho que você é um perdedor, senhor.” = “I don’t think you’re a loser, sir.” In Portuguese, it relates to perdition in that someone who is in perdition (perdição) has lost (perdido) himself. Both words have the same origin, thus the confusion.
The boy’s sentences are all unnatural, as if they we written in English and then translated. :-)
