Australia got rid of their 1 cent and 2 cent coins in 1992 because of the cost of making them. Most people haven’t missed them at all. We got rid of our 1$ and $2 Notes in the 1980’s and replaced them with coins. Replaced our paper money with longer life and more secure Polymer notes also in the 1990’s USA needs to get a handle on manufacturing costs over misplaced nostalgic reasons for keeping redundant and expensive forms of currency.
