Ripley's Believe It or Not! R.I.P. British company And Vinyly presses the ashes of the deceased into real vinyl record that can be played in their memory! Melanie Typaldos and Richard Loveman keep Gary, a 112lb. capybara rodent, as a pet in their home in Buda, Texas. Married women of the Ndevele People of South Africa wear small metal rings to push down their collarbones and give the illusion of long, stretched necks.

Similarly with the Amish in Pennsylvania (and other settlements) like the married South African Ndebele women, married men grow their facial hair, but shave off only the mustaches.

If they removed the Metal Rings, would their neck still support the head or would it just flop sideways?

Well, I sure would hate to have to clean up after that thing. I hate to think what their house smells like.

As soon as giant rodent adoption spreads to Austin, I’ll be thumbing my way back to New York.

Yes. The good thing about tattoos is that it gives you an easy way to spot a moron.

I remember, as a child, reading in Ripley’s about the women of the Ubangi trtibe that “stretched their necks” as a sign of beauty. Is this just a rehashing of an old story with slight changes to the “facts?”
alan.gurka about 11 years ago
Uh Oh! My bad. Just checked Wiki, and the Ubangis put plates in their lips to stretch them out. Maybe it was the same tribe that “stretched” their necks according to the older Ripley’s version of the story.

I once saw a record that was made out of sand paper.Imagine what that would do to your needle !They also made records that would play backwards from the inner label to the outer edge. Its just plain weird.

About the neck rings, it’s actually not true that they would die if they had them removed. Here’s a link (might wanna scroll near the bottom):

There are enough women in the world who like whiskers, so I don’t have to care what you think.
