Ripley's Believe It or Not! British pilots in World War II carried specially modified pencils that hid maps and a compass. Certain species of ants and termites grow their own fungus for food! Assassin Charles Guiteau, who shot President James Garfield dead in 1881, chose a .44 caliber "British Bulldog" pistol because he though it would look nice in a museum!
And, wow, the Axis Powers would never think to find a map and compass in a pencil. By the way, you’d think you’d lose a compass that small in the cockpit; you’d have to have good vision to read it.
