During the famine in Prussia in the 18th century, King Frederick the Great threatened to cut off the noses of any citizens who would not eat potatoes- which were widely thought to be poisonous. Crossing the arms can reduce pain by confusing the brain. Polish cyclist Krystan Herba jumped 2919 steps up the Eureka Tower in Melbourne, Australia, in February 2014, without taking his feet off the pedals once.
