Mighty mite! A tiny Californian mite (Paratarsotomus Macropalpis) can run 300 times its own body length in one second- a cheetah can only do 16 body lengths per second- making the mite one of the fastest recorded creatures on earth. The northernmost vineyard in the world is at Olkiluoto nuclear power plant in Finland, heated with water from the cooling system. Ronna Scoratow, of Pittsburgh, is leaving $5000 of her estate to her 42-year-old philodendron houseplant, to ensure that it will be cared for when she's gone.
Finland is a safe distance away from the fault lines comprising the Ring of Fire (bordering the Pacific Ocean) and the fault line running through the Middle East. Safe distance from earthquakes. The body length of a mite is much shorter than the body length of a cheetah.
