In 2015, Sam Harris, a community radio DJ from Middlesbrough, England, was appointed a deputy marshal of Dodge City, Kansas- 4484 miles away! Fire chiefs in Pingliang City, China, decided to toughen up 20 of their firefighters by making them spend the night in a local cemetery. John Robinson of Loughborough, Leicestershire, England, turns heads by walking his 4 foot long, 17 pound Savanna Bosc monitor lizard on a leash!

Somewhat similar to John Robinson, now if only Jason Fox can keep is iguana Quincy on a leash (that’d be heaven for Paige).

Maybe he should have had then spend the night in a burned out building. I mean how many cemetery fires have there been?

John Robinson’s 4 foot lizard needs to study perspective.

Sigh, the new world order. When I was a kid on my route to school and back, I had to pass an old cemetery, surrounded by a low rock wall. It was completely shaded by huge oak and walnut trees. On hot days, it was the coolest, best shade ever. Because of TV “reality” ghost shows, I know otherwise rational (well, sorta) people who passionately believe in ghosts.

I don’t get wha’s the problem to spend a night in a cementery, out of the cold of the night, there’s nothing why to worry about.

That wouldn’t toughen me, just creep me out

So a cemetery? They must be very superstitious.

No one else commented on Sam Harris, so I went looking for online stories about him. So it was no mistake, no prank, that the 82-year-old radio announcer got the appointed role of deputy marshal. He’s been in the US a few times, he says, but never before in Kansas (let alone western Kansas, where Dodge City is). Avid angler, fishing event organizer. Forty-five years on radio, so millions of people hear him. And he interviews some of them. That’s how he got the deputy marshal appointed role.

By ol’ Sam’s ‘portrait’, he resembles that great ol’ western character actor Slim Pickens, who played a deputy or two, and rode The Bomb out of his B-52 in Dr. Strangelove.
