According to an Indiana University study, there are about 1 trillion species living on earth and we only have discovered .01 percent of them. Food on the fly! Villagers living near Africa's Lake Victoria eat protein packed insect burgers made from the trillions of Midge flies that rise out of the lake every month. Charles Lindenberg's historic transatlantic flight resulted in him being the first person to be in New York one day and Paris the next.

Like it said: insects are full of protein. Although healthy, I say no thanks. As for the 0.01% bit, we all sure have a long way to go to find the other 99.99% of living creatures on Earth.

50 years ago most people would have said ‘ew, no way’ to the idea of raw fish. Now you can buy sushi in the supermarket (and gas stations if you’re brave and/or suicidal). Maybe bugs will be next?

Bugs are now found in common lollies in Australian supermarkets . . including spiders and scorpions!
(I won’t be eating them any time soon)

THAT many haven’t been discovered? That’s wild!

How can you make an estimate on things you have not discovered? If you knew the number, then you would have, by default, discovered them. I guess it would have to be primarily an estimate of undiscovered, bacteria, fungus, mold, worms, etc.

Who at Indiana Univ. counted those undiscovered species?
J Short about 8 years ago
I hear you can get a buzz from those burgers.
Max Starman Jones about 8 years ago
But Lindbergh’s luggage did not get there for two more days.

So if they haven’t been discovered how is it known they exist.
Michael Matchinsky about 8 years ago
As for the .01% of species I’d say that depends on how you define a species.

Just remember that all those flies landed on poop before they became a “burger”!

Estimate by how any more are being discovered
Example: I used to collect the Fleer bubble gum comics (remember them?) When half were repeats, I knew I’d found half of those existing.

Lindbergh had two other families in Europe. Neither family knew who he really was until his death.

Actually about 70% of the Species that were here in 1900 are now Extinct. But the Human Race will be Extinct soon and the Earth will recover.
