30 tons is 60,000 pounds. 88 keys means an average tension of 60,000 / 88 = 682 pounds for each string. I find this unbelievable, or what am I missing?
Oh dear me. Tension is vector quantity. Whereas pressure is scalar quantity. Tension is condition of being held in a state between two or more forces, which are acting in opposition to each other. Pressure is the action of the force applied to a surface. Where is the surface that a piano string acts on to exert pressure? Thought not.

Not surprised about Van Gogh. Many artists work become more valuable to others after the artist dies.
