In 1964 while vacationing in Tennessee I met a young lady cave tour guide. I asked her out, but she declined. I asked for her phone number, but she replied she preferred mail. I quipped I preferred female. For the rest of our trip my dad teased me about not learning her name or number. Once home I wrote her a letter addressed to: “The young female guide, Wonder Cave, Monteagle, Tennessee.” She received it and we corresponded for a year and a half. I even visited her the next summer. My mom was so afraid I’d give her my HS class ring, mom hid it from me, and subsequently lost it.
