When my mom was a kid, there was a squirrel who would use the power line to get to their bird feeder and steal some of the seeds while hanging upside-down like a bat.
Some people make the squirrels run an obstacle course to get to bird feeders. They still learn, but it looks like a Rube Goldberg invention in action while they are running it.
My Dad had the bright idea of hanging the bird feeder from a long thin wire, but a squirrel shimmied down it to the bird feeder. The problem was that the squirrel had to wrap his tail around the wire to hold on and the feeder was so light that every movement the squirrel made caused the feeder to spin around. The result—the squirrel got his tail entangled in the wire and couldn’t get loose! My father had to go out, unhook the bird feeder and lay it on the ground. He wasn’t crazy enough to try to untangle the squirrel’s tail himself, he wasn’t going to get close to an animal that can crack nuts with his teeth. He just left him alone and after a while he came back to find the squirrel gone, but part of his tail was still entangled in the wire!

And yet, she never catches one. Same with my cats.

well, it would be pretty gruesome if she did, and some kids might not like that!

4 squirrels against one of nature’s finest predators. I’m sure they could win, but the cost would be high.

Our late cat, Brandy, had no trouble bringing down squirrels. She also terrorized all the neighbohood dogs.

I think for Peekaboo the thrill is in the chase… if she won there would be no more chasing.
