I look at it this way: I was envious of my friend and his band when they opened for the Cheiftains. I wasnât jealous, though. Envy was: âI wish I could have been there, but Iâm happy for them and their success.â Jealousy would have been: âThat should have been me; I should have been the flute player there, âcause Iâm better than his current flutist.â I was happy for my friendâs success, though, and wouldnât want my envy to turn to jealousy, for it would get in the way of our friendship.In the case of our squirrel friends here, theyâre trying not to be bitter that sheâs inside and theyâre not.
