That’s kind of the relationship I had with Yang: the running and sleeping thing, anyway. We lived in the desert, where you don’t climb the trees (they bite!).
Cats CAN be wonderful playmates. One time my husband & I had a friend over who had a 3-year-old son. We were all watching the NASCAR race; the son was sitting on the floor patting Mitch, our 16-lb Silver Classic Tabby, but he looked a little bored. I got down on the floor and said, “Watch this.” I proceeded to “wrestle” with Mitch, showing the little boy how. The 2 of them had a wonderful rest of the afternoon wrestling. (Mitch was an extremely affectionate cat who loved physical contact of almost any kind, and was sturdy enough to take all but the roughest handling; definitely anything a 3-year-old could dish out.)
If you get the right breed of cat they will swim with you too. My bengals love water. My dearly departed Tiger used to dive in the tub before I could get in it so I had to lock him out or know that I was showering after and drying him off too. I have to put down the toilet lids or all the water ends up on the floor.

As long as she doesn’t sharpen her claws on the blow up pool, all will be fine ;)
