The last time I rode as the last one on – a toboggan – was at least 75 years ago. We hit a bump buried in the snow, I was thrown up and off and hit a tree that stopped my flight. Went home with a very broken and bloody nose – that still has a bump in the middle to this day.
Toboggans weren’t suited for the hills we sledded down as kids. I lived in front of raised railroad tracks; the tracks were atop a roughly 25-foot hill with an angle of about 60 degrees. Our favored conveyances were either saucers, plastic or metal, or flattened cardboard boxes.
