In popular culture, the mace, morningstar and flail are often confused.Many experts think that type of flail didn’t even really exist as a weapon…it mostly shows up later, in fantasy… and reenactments. Some museum examples have been discovered to be 19th century forgeries…Fair enough to say Rubin doesn’t know everything about medieval weapons…maybe he only knows the pop culture references.Maybe the flail is only a fantasy weapon anyway… and… guess what… this is a fantasy.And a joke.
