How about instead of paying the high price for the cookies, I don't actually want, I just directly give you the amount you would've received as a cut of my payment, plus a dollar? That way you get more money, no cookies get wasted, and I get the sense of pride for which the cookies merely acted as a conveyance. Sorry ma'am. No can do. I'm working on a merit badge. How can they give you a merit badge for inefficiently moving money from people to organizations? Later... Bureaucracy

Umm…..do you not see the simple solution, young lady. She makes the donation to you, and then that means however many boxes are paid for. YOU can have the cookies. A friend of mine was selling candy bars and a lady told her to keep the candy, so they ate it.

Many, many years ago I had to sell band candy, Christmas cards, and Christmas wrapping paper for grade school projects. It felt like a fraud, even then. Mostly relatives bought it, and the look on their faces told me they didn’t really want to. Forget going door to door, even back then most parents wouldn’t let us..But of course there was always somebody like Donald the Perpetual Overachiever who sold hundreds of boxes because his father sold for him at his workplace. Whoever says childhood is a completely fun, carefree time doesn’t remember stuff like that.

Girl Scouts own the cookie contracts and keep most of the profits. Candy, wrapping paper and card profits go to the vendor instead of the selling organization.
