The fallacy is the reality that no one actually believes that stuff. It’s obvious. If someone actually believed that life was mere preparation for an eternal life, an eternal life that is most attainable by emulating the generally accepted character of God’s son, how could you not give over all your efforts and possessions to ease the lives of others? How could you kill anyone for any reason or ever contribute to killing for any reason? How could your compassion, or at least your desire to emulate Christ, not move you to work ceaselessly for the most downtrodden, the meanest, the most afflicted of humanity, the ones he loved? How could yo not impoverish yourself in the effort, as he would? If you actually believed, would you care at all about even having a home, much less a boatload of toys, clothes, cars, etc. Wouldn’t everything you could gain go toward others, giving as Jesus would give? How could you not. It wouldn’t even be a hard decision, if you believed this life is a mere blink of an eye and that your real life is in eternity. Not if you believed.
No. No one believes. They lipservice it, for appearance, to be in “the club,” to not be talked about, to pretend and thereby push back the dark that terrorizes them. But believe? No. If you tell me you believe, you are either a liar, for you could not possibly believe and behave as you do, or you are a fool and reject some eternity for a candy-coated now.
