    When I first married, I was intimidated by the idea of cooking (my husband knew how). My mother told me the secret: cooking is just organic chemistry. I’ve done fine ever since.

    This is the best way to learn to cook well. Start with an established recipe, follow it, and observe your own process. Gradually you get used to how ingredients, flavors, and textures combine and it’s okay to start experimenting. Just this evening, I scrolled through a recipe for chicken alfredo, then closed the browser and got to work in the kitchen. Despite major deviations and modifications from the original, the result was delightful.
